This week we are thrilled to pull back the curtain on a political position that people don't know that much about......What exactly is the role of a Superior Court Judge and what makes somebody want to run for that office?
We were lucky enough to sit down and chat with the incredible CJ Mody who is running for San Diego Superior Court Judge Office 18 and talk all about what led him to throw his hat in the ring.
CJ Mody has been a deputy district attorney for 17 years and has spent the last 13 years with the Family Protection Division, prosecuting homicide, domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and child pornography cases. He has a history of being fair and even tempered making him a great attorney and judicial candidate.
He and his family immigrated to the United States from India when he was 12 and he has been a resident of San Diego ever since. CJ and Harriet both attended the Bishop's School in La Jolla, CA for middle and high school and both went on to attend the University of San Diego for undergrad which they touch on in the podcast. CJ speaks about how Bishop's helped to shape him into the person he is today!
In this episode we cover
⭐️ The pivotal moment that inspired him to make a career out of protecting and fighting for victims.
⭐️How to keep implicit bias out of this non partisan position and treat everybody equally whether they are Republican, Democrat or somewhere in between.
⭐️Having the courage to be disliked when making a ruling.
⭐️Why Courage and Morality are such huge parts of being a Superior Court Judge and how CJ exemplifies those traits in all aspects of his life.
⭐️How to bridge the political divide between right and left and meet each other in the middle.
⭐️Why it's so important to be polite and cordial with your opponent.
It's a great episode that we really enjoyed and CJ Mody would make a wonderful San Diego Superior Court Judge.
You can learn more about him on his website https://www.cjmodyforjudge.com/meetcj/ and find him on Instagram and Facebook
Stay tuned for Friday when we interview his opponent Roberta Winston!

Get to Know the Candidates Running for San Diego City Attorney- Cory Briggs
Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
Wednesday Feb 19, 2020
We had the best time sitting down with the other candidate running against incumbent Mara Elliott for San Diego City Attorney. Cory Briggs, aka the Taxpayer’s Advocate has spent nearly two decades fighting special interests at City Hall.
In this episode we talk about how Cory went from aspiring rockstar to attorney to ultimately launching his political campaign for San Diego City Attorney. With a background in accounting and philosophy and having the ultimate goal of pursuing a life of academia, Cory was actually encouraged by professors and mentors to pursue law and he has had quite the impressive career thus far.
In 2002 he founded the Briggs Law Corporation and has a very successful track record in helping to advocate for the interests of the San Diego taxpayers. His ultimate reason for running for San Diego City Attorney is to move the city attorney’s office away from a culture of secrecy to a culture of transparency, effectively seeking to remove politics from government.
We talk about
- Why the taxpayers in San Diego should have a voice and be able to vote on issues that concern them, like Qualcomm stadium.
- How the current city attorney’s office is pursuing an agenda contrary to the will of the voters.
- Short term vacation rentals like Air BnB and what Cory Briggs will do if elected.
- The issue of homelessness in San Diego and how we can work combat the different reasons for homelessness.
- How Briggs will work to protect children and the ways in which Mara Elliot has failed to do so.
If you’re a San Diego voter you need to listen before sending off your ballot or going to the polls.
You can contact Cory Briggs and learn more about his campaign on his website. https://corybriggs.com/

Get to Know the Candidates Running for San Diego City Attorney- Pete Mesich
Tuesday Feb 18, 2020
Tuesday Feb 18, 2020
We are so excited to be bringing you real and unbiased information to help you get to know the candidates running for local San Diego political positions. The first in our series of candidate interviews is Pete Mesich who is a running for the non partisan local position of San Diego City Attorney.
Pete Mesich is a licensed San Diego attorney who has been practicing law for 17 years and has worked in the City Attorney’s Office in both the civil division and in the criminal division.
The quote that really made us say “we need this man on the show asap” was when Pete said in an interview that “one of the that I’ve found is the working for the public good is a lot more rewarding than working for money”, a sentiment that is rare to hear these days!
He has a clear VIEW for San Diego City Attorney's office (Vision, Integrity, Experience/Education, Will) to restore the office’s reputation as one of the most effective, diverse, and respected public law firms in the United States.
In this interview we talk about
- the need for the city attorney to not have a self serving social media presence
- the importance of removing political bias from the city attorney's office
- why he doesn't just see this as a stepping stone to a larger political role
- why the City Attorney’s Office, lead by the City Attorney, needs to be a pillar of trust in city government, as opposed to an example of corrosive political skepticism
It's a fascinating interview with a great candidate and we know this is more of a local episode but definitely take a listen if you're a San Diego voter so you can make informed decisions when casting your vote!

This week we are talking all things State of the Union and the breaking news of President Trump's acquittal. Democrats saw it coming, Mitt Romney surprised us all and now those who spoke honestly within the White House are being ousted like decorated veteran Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman. Shit is crazy!
We also recap our interesting and hilarious experience at the Republican Party San Diego County Central Committee Meeting on February 3rd where I dressed up as Lady Liberty and my dad dressed up as Uncle Sam.
We met some lovely and open minded people who commended what we are trying to do with starting a dialogue between family members who are on opposite sides of the political spectrum.
We also recap why some people who spoke need to purchase a dictionary and look up the term "feminism" and discuss why is Tomi Lahren so angry?
It's a wild ride and as always we will hit you with our weekly "Hey Gavin".
We also are so excited to share that we have our first Democratic guest coming on the podcast next week!

Welcome back to an all new episode of Now Hear Me Out! This week we are talking about Gavin Newsome and his proposed 1 Billion Dollar plan to end homelessness in California, of course paid for by the taxpayers with no real data to back it up.
We also are talking about the last Democratic Election before the Iowa caucus which the Republicans are deeming the "ultimate snoozefest", apparently if you aren't actively making fun of a woman's appearance or alleging that one of your opponents dad's helped to assassinate JFK then it's just too boring!
As you can tell from the title of this episode we also discuss whether or not we agree with President Trump's decision and method of assassinating Iranian military general Qasem Soleimani.
We tie it all together with some words of advice for President Trump as to how he can better serve the United States and why he needs to delete Twitter from his phone for the safety of the country. Give it a listen and we promise you will learn a lot and be entertained as we discuss our opposing political views with love, humor and respect.
